First Lady of Iowa State University

Katie Cook is an Ames native and Iowa State University alumna with more than 29 years of experience in special education. Her career includes work as an autism specialist in K‑12 classrooms, faculty appointments at Missouri Western State University and the University of Kansas, and service at the state level with the Missouri Board of Education.

Cook is co-author of Asperger Syndrome and Sensory Issues and Autism Spectrum Disorders: Interventions and Treatments for Children and Youth. She has published numerous articles in professional journals and cowritten several book chapters.

Cook holds a bachelor’s degree in education from Iowa State University and a master’s degree and a Ph.D. in special education, with an emphasis on behavior disorder and autism spectrum disorder, from the University of Kansas.
